When Belvoir life was quite young, some years ago, we were approached by a few of our Equestrian friends to create websites for them, and improve their online presence.
These started as fairly Star tych website which were difficult for the riders themselves to edit, but which Presented the information in an attractive way.
With each subsequent redesign, or new client, each of our equestrian websites became more dynamic and more intelligent. We realised that each of these professional writers had supporters and sponsors as well as an ever-changing string of horses.
We quickly realised that we could create a framework which enabled us to start each Equestrian website from someway down the project management track. Each site could utilise WordPress posts for articles and reports on competitions that they had taken part in, it could use WordPress pages for the static Information based areas of the site biographies and contact pages. By creating custom post types for horses, which which also contained custom fields for their year of birth their height, their agenda and their breeding as well as their owners details, we could make it very easy for the owner of the website to go in and edit the details of a horse, such as a change in the level of which it is competing, without any technical knowledge. Any changes they made would immediately go live on the website.
Likewise with sponsors and supporters we could add custom fields for the sponsors logo website address and some blurb about what they do for the rider And then generate a page within the WordPress system which dynamically uses the entries for those sponsors to create a page on the website. By using a custom theme and a few plug-ins to facilitate the custom posts we were able to create a template for future Equestrian website which is now a substantial part of our business.
