Midlands Pointing is the Webb address of the Midlands area point point Association. The association managers the amateur horse racing fixtures within the Midland area of England with fixtures ranging from Northampton in the south to Grimsby in the north.

As the Regional hub four point point racing Midlands Pointing Publishes a lot of information which is of interest to both owners of horses and the general public. The volunteers at Midlands Pointing publish regular previews and reports for each of their race meetings, as well as fixture pages for each meeting which outline the races which will take place, who can enter those races, And the sponsors. They also publish pages for each course in the Midlands area. Each course Page has a map, directions, details of which race meetings take place there, and even details of the fences on the course.

Midlands Pointing also publishes reference material Including rules and regulations of point point racing, a glossary of racing terms and what they mean, and various useful forms required by people taking part in the sport. When Midlands Pointing approached us for a website, they knew that most of the material on the website would either be WordPress pages or WordPress posts and that from that point of view it was a fairly straightforward structure. By adding custom post types for fixtures and For courses we were able to make the site more dynamic and easier to edit.

The course Poste has a small number of custom fields And a fairly straightforward template which each of the courses populate dynamically.

The fixture post, on the other hand, is very complex. In addition to a large number of custom fields relative relevant to the whole fixture such as details of the secretaries links to reports previews Details of the photographer et cetera The majority of the custom fields are connected with the races. Each race has a title, a description, sponsors name, the sponsors link, and the sponsor logo. In addition to these fields for each race there are multiple sponsors who pay for things connected with the meeting as opposed to sponsoring a Race in total there are XXX custom fields in this post time. Pointing did not have a brand as such so we helped them to form a logo a colour palette and a choice font. The front page was always going to be predominantly a news page with a list of Posts forming the majority of the page. In addition to this, in a right hand column, we created a space for going reports brackets where fixtures report how hard or soft the ground is before the meeting takes place) and a randomly generated list of sponsors logos, each of which is linked to the sponsors website.

We enjoy the fact that Midlands Pointing is an ongoing project and do our best to make it as easy to use and to edit as possible.
